City Leaders Unveil New South End Vision Plan for Next 10 Years
CHARLOTTE, NC– “I think they’re amazing, I think anything that can be done to further the growth the development the opportunity,” said South End resident, Gillian Stevens.
Hundreds of South End residents and business owners packed Triple C Brewery’s new Barrel Room in South End to get their first look at the city’s plans for the area over the next 10 years.
“Creating great public spaces, more opportunity for people to come invest and start business great opportunities for affordable housing,” said Craig Lewis with Stantec Consulting.
With all the new high rise apartments going up the city wants to focus on bringing in more business.
“There’s still a lot of underutilized and developable land in South nEd if you just look up and down South Boulevard and South Tryon in particular you see a lot of one story buildings,” said Cheryl Myers with Charlotte Center City Partners.
Charlotte Center City Partners worked with cdot to come up with the plan to make the area an urban village.
“First and foremost we want to install new pedestrian crossings on each of these corridors to make it safer and more comfortable for folks to travel along and cross the corridors by foot,” said Scott Currey with CDOT.
Six new traffic signals on South Boulevard and four on South Tryon street will help traffic flow. Most residents are excited.
“The rail trail all the planning and cooperation going on has been wonderful,” said South End resident, John Stevens.
