Wife sought Protective Order against husband wanted for murder of her parents
CHARLOTTE, NC– “I’ve never heard a peep from over there, there’s never been anything that would make you think something strange going on over there, never,” said neighbor, Shaquana Woolfolk.
But court documents WCCB found reveal 45-year-old Keydra Smith tried to take legal action to keep her husband from hurting her or her family and her request was denied! Last week Keydra filed a complaint for a domestic violence protective order listing a history of abuse.
In it, she says on Friday July 14th her husband showed up drunk at her work after she asked him not to contact her. She says in March 2016, Vurnell hit her, knocked her down and she went to the hospital. In October of 2016 Vurnel threatened to kill her, her brother and her daughter. In January of this year she says she was choked and hit more than once and she feared there is serious immediate danger to her after he told her if she tried to leave he would kill her.
Monday, July 17th Keydra appeared in Mecklenburg County court in front of District Judge David Strickland and her order was denied saying the plaintiff has failed to prove grounds for the order.
“The judge first has to find there’s an act of domestic violence and then they have to go to that next step to say that the remedy to prevent imminent harm or threat to their life is a protective order,” said attorney, Mike Greene.
A week after the order was denied police say Vurnell Smith Junior killed his mother and father in law and hit Keydra in the head with a metal object and tied her up. She got away and drove to CMC University where police later found her father 69-year old Rufus Gordon dead in the trunk of the car.
Smith Junior now has five warrants out for his arrest, two counts of Murder, Rape, Kidnapping, and Assault.
