CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina coach Roy Williams says he has “no idea” whether freshman Joel Berry II will be ready to return from a groin injury Saturday at Boston College.
The reserve point guard has missed seven straight games since reaggravating a groin injury suffered around Christmas. Williams said Friday that Berry has increased his practice work with the team, and Williams hasn’t ruled Berry out as he did in advance of recent losses to top-10 opponents Louisville and Virginia.
Berry’s injury is one of several hits to the backcourt for the No. 12 Tar Heels. Fellow freshman guard Theo Pinson is out indefinitely with a broken foot and junior Marcus Paige has battled a case of plantar fasciitis, while two other reserves are out with foot injuries.
