Mooresville mother charged with murder in toddler’s death

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – A local woman is charged with murder in the death of her toddler. Riley Wormington is accused of letting her child under two-years-old ingest a lethal dose of fentanyl. Despite life-saving efforts from first responders, the toddler died February 13th at a home on Ridge Avenue in Mooresville.

Mooresville Police investigators tell us 23-year-old Wormington left the state shortly after giving birth to another child and while the investigation into the death of her toddler continued. She was arrested this week in Denver, Colorado and will be transported back to Iredell County.

Wormington is charged with 2nd degree murder, felony child abuse, and drug charges. She’s also been charged in relation to the care of her newborn with felony child abuse.
