LENOIR, N.C. — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle accident that happened in Lenoir.
Investigators say Darrell Proffit and Elizabeth Collins were in a pick up truck on Valway Road Wednesday evening when Proffit lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
Both Proffit and Collins were pronounced dead on the scene. Β Investigators say it appears the truck was traveling northwest on Valway Road and ran off the right side of the roadway. Β The truck came back onto the roadway and crossed the center line before overcorrecting and crashing into a tree.
Both occupants were wearing their seat belts, according to a news release. Β Investigators are working to determine if speed or weather were contributing factors in the accident.
Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call police.
