LENOIR, N.C. — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle accident that happened in Lenoir.
Investigators say Darrell Proffit and Elizabeth Collins were in a pick up truck on Valway Road Wednesday evening when Proffit lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
Both Proffit and Collins were pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators say it appears the truck was traveling northwest on Valway Road and ran off the right side of the roadway. The truck came back onto the roadway and crossed the center line before overcorrecting and crashing into a tree.
Both occupants were wearing their seat belts, according to a news release. Investigators are working to determine if speed or weather were contributing factors in the accident.
