Cooler & cloudier days ahead, watching for rain
Scattered clouds and occasional showers will keep us on the cooler side over the next two days.
March’s second weekend is off to a wonderful start, but our Carolina blue skies turn noticeably grayer over the next 48 hours. Rain chances have strongly trended downward on Sunday – while a few showers are possible, especially along I-85 and southward, most communities will stay dry through the remainder of the weekend. The drop-off in moisture is due to an incoming storm system tracking farther south than originally forecast. Highs will reach well into the 50s across the Piedmont and Foothills for our first day of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday; areas that see more sunshine could easily crack 60º.
Regardless of what happens on Sunday, rain chances will rise into the start of the workweek as more energy surges northward. Once again, areas south of I-40 stand to see better opportunities for scattered showers. Sunny skies and warmer highs triumphantly return on Sunday as temperatures soar into the 60s and 70s across the board. The thermostat may crank even higher into the back half of the week – the Queen City may add to its 80º tally once or twice over the next seven days.
