Hundreds Attend Community Meeting On I-77 Toll Lanes Project

CORNELIUS, NC — Standing room only Thursday night as hundreds packed a community meeting on the I-77 toll lanes project.

The group Widen I-77 is working to stop or modify the controversial project. NCDOT hired Mercator to study the impact of terminating the 50-year agreement with Cintra, the company hired to build the toll lanes.

Mercator suggested, based on public input, that canceling the project would be the best route, but their advisors say it would cost the state nearly $300 million to cancel.
