Suspect Wrecks Motorcycle, Gets Bit By Dog While Running From Deputies

VALE, NC — A Burke County man faces multiple charges after leading deputies on a chase Monday evening.

Deputies say they tried to stop Anthony Lewis, 30, on Old #10 Highway near Icard Dairy Barn Road after he was seen riding a motorcycle with no headlight on and no helmet. Lewis took off however, and turned down Icard Dairy Barn Road where he wrecked a short distance later.

According to reports, Lewis ran away from the crash on foot, but deputies soon caught up with him in the Country Squire mobile home park. Officials say Lewis struggled with the deputy and tried to pull away, but was taken to the ground and arrested.

Lewis told the deputy he had been bitten by a dog where he crashed his bike, and was treated by Medic on scene.

He is charged with Resisting, Delay, or Obstruct Public Officer, Possession of a Schedule VI, Failure to Heed Light or Siren, and Driving During Revocation. Officials say Lewis also had outstanding warrants for Breaking and Entering Buildings, Larceny, and Possession of Stolen Goods.
