Police Identify Pedestrian Hit And Killed In South Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD has identified the woman who died after being hit by a car in south Charlotte Monday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:52pm on Pineville-Matthews Road at Arboretum Drive. CMPD says they found 83-year-old Ileana Barna lying in the road when they arrived. She was taken to CMC with life threatening injuries, and pronounced dead at 4:26pm.

Officials say Barna had crossed the three northeast lanes, and was attempting to cross the southwest lanes when she was hit by David Miller’s 2000 Toyota Camry. Police say Miller immediately called 911 following the accident.

According to reports, there were no marked crosswalks or pedestrian crossing signs at the intersection. Miller was interviewed on scene, and police say excessive speed was not a factor nor was there any sign of impairment.
