Omni Montessori School offering adolescents chance to learn outside the classroom

WAXHAW, NC- Learning takes a front seat alongside chickens and goats  off an old country road, about 45 minutes outside of Charlotte.

Director of Adolescent Programming at the Omni Montessori School,  Ashlyn Spangenberg said, “the mission at Omni is to empower students in a community faithful to the teachings of Maria Montessori.”

She added the child centered educational approach is on full display at Omni and on the farm located on the school’s adolescent campus in Waxhaw.

“So we really do work with the students all together on campus, whether it’s on the farm or in the classroom.
There’s just a really close community feel here,” explained Spangenberg.

She says  the Omni Adolescent Montessori campus in Waxhaw is where students and staff focus on the “Erdkinder,” or land child philosophy; hands on learning in a farm based setting getting exposure to real world skills.

The kids we met there said it’s a big hit.

Their hard work pays off at the Charlotte Regional Farmer’s Market where the students run their own stall selling goods straight from the farm.

Omni also has a Charlotte campus on Blakeney Heath Road.
