Five Teens Arrested Following Crime Spree And Wreck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have charged five suspects in connection with a series of crimes that ended in a wreck near NoDa.

Amaris Taylor MaGee, 16, Kaleek Singleton, 16, are both charged with Resisting, Obstructing, or Delaying a Law Enforcement Officer.

Three juveniles between the ages of 14 and 15-years-old are charged with Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Vehicle Theft, Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, and Misdemeanor Larceny.

The CMPD says between the hours of 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on October 14, 2017, the teenagers stole a white Ford Escape from a residence on Fairvista Drive in Charlotte, and broke into another vehicle at the same residence.

The suspects also broke into cars at seven other locations in the Highland Creek Parkway area during this time.

At about 8:09 a.m., on October 14th, one the suspects robbed at gunpoint the Rite Aid at 3716 W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Two employees were present at this time but on one was injured.  The suspect fled the scene in the stolen Ford Escape with two other suspects.

Around 12:39, on October 14th, the stolen vehicle was located by a tap reader on The Plaza at Matheson Avenue.

A CMPD officer made a u-turn to conduct a traffic stop, at which time the white Ford Escape ran a red light at E. Sugar Creek Road and collided with a Dodge Magnum with five occupants inside.

Five suspects ran form the vehicle, but the 14-year-old driver was trapped inside the vehicle, which had caught on fire.

Two CMPD officers rescued the juvenile suspect from the burning vehicle.  The suspect was transported to Carolinas Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

The CMPD set up a perimeter and apprehended all five of the other suspect shortly thereafter.

One suspect was injured on barbed wire fencing and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing and another series of possibly related crimes is being investigated.
