NTSB: Small crack in landing gear caused nose-first landing at CLT in 2023
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The NTSB says a small crack in part of the landing gear caused a plane to land nose-first at Charlotte Douglas.
The board released its final report Tuesday on the June 2023 incident. The crack was likely caused by tiny scratches during manufacturing or maintenance years ago.
Back in 2023, we talked to passengers on board that flight. Gary Gibbs told us, “The landing was frightening. Obviously, I think everyone was concerned and scared.”
Investigators say a previous inspection of the plane was not done correctly. All Boeing 717s will now receive extra inspections.
