Man arrested after mass shooting in Catawba County
UPDATE 06/03/25:
CATAWBA CO., NC – An arrest has been made in connection to a mass shooting that killed one man and left 11 others hurt.
Garon Nathaniel Killian, 20, of Lenoir, is charged with one count of first attempted first degree murder.
Killian is currently being held under no bond in the Newton Detention Facility. His first court appearance is on Wednesday.
Officials say multiple search warrants were executed on Tuesday as part of the investigation. Additional arrests are expected.

CATAWBA CO., NC – The FBI is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for a deadly mass shooting at a large house party in Catawba County.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering the $15,000 reward.
One person died and 11 others were hurt after a shooting early Sunday morning on Walnut Acres Drive in the Mountain View community of Catawba County. Authorities say there were at least 100 people at the party when shots rang out.
Some of the victims were shot, others were hurt as people tried to get away during the shooting. Authorities say they are aware of pictures and videos from the party and are asking people to upload them to this link.
Investigators say the victims range in age from 16 to 57. The man who died has been identified as 58-year-old Shawn Hood from Lenoir.

CATAWBA CO., NC – One person is dead and 11 others are injured after a shooting in Catawba County. The Catawba County Sheriff’s office says investigators combed a 2 acre scene on Walnut Acres Drive where they’ve picked up more than 80 shell casings.
Investigators say people were gathered at 1:00 Saturday morning when shots rang out in the Mountain View community of southwest Catawba County. Investigators say 12 people were hurt, some were shot, including 58 year old Shawn Patrick Hood from Lenoir. Investigators say he was killed in the shooting and at least one other victim is in critical condition. Other victims were hurt as they tried to get away from the shooting. Several victims spent Sunday in the hospital.
Police suspect multiple shooters were involved and at least one may have used a rifle. So far, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been named. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Department, Hickory Police Department and North Carolina SBI are investigating this case as a mass shooting.
