CHARLOTTE, N.C — CMPD has released surveillance showing the suspect wanted in connection to an east Charlotte murder Tuesday night.

Police responded to a robbery call on Amity Court around 11:14 pm. When officers arrived, they found 44-year-old Preston Coffey inside a business with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene by MEDIC.

Investigators say Coffey was in his office when a male suspect entered the business and confronted him and a female witness. That’s when shots were fired.

Surveillance shows a suspect described as a black male in his mid-20’s, 5’8”, medium build, medium skin complexion, short hair, and was last seen wearing a dark gray crew neck shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.

A CMPD K-9 team tried to track the suspect Tuesday night with the help of the Aviation Unit but he was not found.

The Investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600
