Suspect Ends High Speed Chase At East Charlotte Police Station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police now have a man in custody after he led them on a high speed chase through Charlotte.  The chase ended when the suspect pulled into an east Charlotte police department and surrendered.

The chase originated when a US Marshal attempted to stop 26-year-old Xavier Simmons on I-485 near the Union County line.

Simmons refused to stop and drove at a high rate of speed through east Charlotte for about 45 minutes before ultimately giving up to police at the Hickory Grove Police Station on North Sharon Amity.

Officials say Simmons was wanted for a felony parole violation. After his surrender, Simmons told reporters on scene that he ran because he didn’t want to go back to prison.

Simmons was taken to CMC and remains in US Marshall custody at this time. No injuries were reported during the chase.
