ICE concerns have fans afraid to attend Real Madrid match
One of the most famous sports teams in the world will be in Charlotte this weekend but a good portion of the Hispanic community is too afraid to go to the match out of fear of being arrested by ICE at the game.
Real Madrid plays Sunday at Bank of America Stadium for the FIFA Club World Cup.
Hector Vaca with Action NC says because of everything happening with immigration enforcement, immigrants in our community are too afraid to leave their homes even for such a big match.
“Most of the immigrant community enjoys something that they go out to in mass,” Vaca said. “So, it’s part of ICE’s campaign of terror in our community. Just trying to scare people in our community.”
There was a since-deleted post from Customs and Border Protection. It was about two weeks ago, and it said that they will be “suited and booted,” ready to provide security for the first round of World Cup games that was being held back in Miami a couple of weeks ago.
