Runners Take Flight At The Airport Runway 5k
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Runners in the queen city participated in a unique experience.Β Nearly 1200 people took to the tarmac at Charlotte-Douglas Airport Saturday for the Airport Runway 5k.
They ran on active runways and even under a plane with a view of the airfield and the uptown skyline.
Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Chief Operations Officer Jack Christine spoke to WCCB about the event.
“It is a very unique opportunity. It’s not something that you see everyday especially for an airport our size. But we think this is a really important thing for us to do to let the community have an opportunity to get to some place on the airport where they normally wouldn’t get to go.”
This was the eleventh year of the run and funds from the 5k go toward Life Span and the United Way of the Central Carolinas.
