US Supreme Court votes to allow states to cut off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The US Supreme Court will allow states to cut off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood. That came down in a decision Thursday with a vote of six to three.

The case started in South Carolina. Governor Henry McMaster issued an executive order saying abortion providers don’t qualify for Medicaid users. A Medicaid patient sued to get birth control services through the clinic.

According to Planned Parenthood, patients are not able to use Medicaid for abortions, but can get contraception.

In a social media post, Governor McMaster said, “Seven years ago, we took a stand to protect the sanctity of life and defend South Carolina’s authority and values, and today we are finally victorious.”
