CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the 2013 murder of a 54-year-old neighbor.
Colin Latta, 40, was found guilty on all charges during a trial which began back in October. He was charged with First Degree Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Latta was outside his home on Sylvania Avenue in August 2013, according to officials, when he started arguing with his neighbor Charles Jefferson, 54. Officials say Latta went inside, got a gun, and came out shooting into Jefferson’s yard.
Jefferson was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds at a local hospital. Two other men were also in the yard at the time. One survived after being hit twice, and the other was not injured.
Latta took off from the scene, but officials found him the next day hiding in a shed in York County, South Carolina.
