Salisbury Bank Robbery, Shooting And Police Chase Suspect Identified

Officials have identified the man accused of robbing a Wells Fargo bank, shooting two people and leading police on a chase.

Investigators say the suspect is Paul Jones III.  Jones was killed by officers during a shootout.

Police say the Jones shot one person inside the bank during the robbery attempt.  That victim, Jose Santiago, is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the face.  Jones is also accused of shooting a man that he carjacked after the bank robbery.  That man, Larry Dalton, is in stable condition after being shot in the head and arm.

Investigators say three different officers discharged their firearms during the shootout.

Sergeant Michael Colvin, he is assigned as the supervisor of our Narcotics Detectives. Sergeant Colvin has been with the Salisbury Police Department for 21 years.

Officer Jay Basinger is a patrol officer and has been with the Salisbury Police Department for 2 ½ years.

Officer Joseph Martinez is a K9 officer assigned to patrol operations and has been with the Salisbury Police Department for 4 ½ years.

SALISBURY, NC — Police say the suspect who robbed a bank Thursday afternoon has died after a shootout with authorities.

The robbery happened around 5:04pm at the Wells Fargo on W. Jake Alexander Boulevard. According to reports, one person was shot inside the bank during the robbery.

When police located the suspect’s vehicle a high speed chase ensued that went from Brenner Avenue, to Lincolnton and S. Fulton Street, and then back to Jake Alexander Boulevard. Police say the suspect then crashed into another vehicle on Jake Alexander.

Officers fired shots at the suspect, police say. The suspect later died from injuries.

Officials say several other victims were injured during the events, but they have not given any specifics.

Officials say the FBI and SBI are investigating the bank robbery, officer-involved shooting, and other crimes that may have been committed by the suspect.
