Charlotte Country Day says the coaches involved in an altercation Wednesday evening are no longer employed with the school.
The Charlotte Country Day Head of School, Mark Reed, has released a statement following the arrest of a JV basketball coach for threatening another coach with a gun.
“As you may have heard on the news, there was an incident on Cannon Campus last evening. An altercation took place between two part-time coaches after hours at the front of campus. It is my understanding that one of the men, who had a concealed carry permit, had a weapon with him during but not before the incident took place. We are thankful that no one was hurt and the situation was handled by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
Country Day Security quickly became aware of the situation, contacted the Police, and remained on the scene until the local authorities arrived. We continue to cooperate and stay in close communication with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Both coaches, like all employees of Charlotte Country Day School, passed a background check prior to their employment and each has been suspended pending an investigation.
The safety of students, faculty, and staff is always our first concern. While we continue to look into this situation in more detail, I wanted you to hear from us in a timely manner regarding this incident.
I am confident that our campus remains a safe place for students to learn and grow. Thank you for your continued support and trust as we serve our students.”
