Unsettled pattern ends July, cooler air to start August
Highs may struggle to get above 80° this coming weekend.
Monday made for three-straight days at or above 100° in the Queen City, but don’t expect our newfound triple-digit streak to last much longer. That said, temperatures will cruise back into the upper 90s this Tuesday afternoon before getting cut down by scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms as an unsettled pattern descends upon the WCCB Charlotte viewing area to close out July. Expect more of the same for the final two days of the month on Wednesday and Thursday, although temperatures may cool further into the mid-to-lower 90s across the Piedmont and Foothills due to increased cloud and storm coverage.
Even cooler weather lies ahead as we turn the page into August. A robust cold front will push into the Carolinas from the north by Thursday night, bumping up storm chances while dragging Canadian-sourced air into our area by Friday. There’s still a decent amount of uncertainty, but medium-range models are suggesting highs may struggle to clear 80° this weekend around the Metro. The temperatures may be more agreeable, but cloudy and wet conditions could hamper your Saturday and Sunday afternoon plans – stay tuned.
