CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, the nationally beloved brand known for its cult-favorite dairy and vegan ice cream, is opening its first Charlotte scoop shop on Thursday, September 4 in Plaza Midwood.

Ben Van Leeuwen, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream co-founder and CEO said: “Charlotte has such a vibrant food culture, we are so happy and excited to be bringing Van Leeuwen here. Our mission has always been to make good ice cream that makes you feel good, and we can’t wait to share that with the Charlotte community.“

To celebrate the grand opening on September 4, Van Leeuwen is offering $1 scoops from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plus, the first 100 guests will receive a free Van Leeuwen tote bag. And drumroll please: Van Leeuwen will also debut a limited-time collaboration sundae with local favorite, the Batchmaker Cristina Rojas. More details on the special to come!

“I have been a fan of Van Leeuwen for a while so collaborating on this sundae has been a dream,” said Cris Rojas, the Batchmaker and owner of Batch House. “Our creation brings together one of our favorite recipes and their delicious ice cream — I cannot wait for you all to try it!”

Van Leeuwen is known nationally for creative seasonal flavors with a genuine focus on good ingredients and no unnecessary stuff, and for out-of-the-box limited-edition collaboration flavors such as Hidden Valley Ranch, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, BIGFACE Coffee Affogato in partnership with NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler and Espresso ice cream in partnership with singer/songwriter Sabrina Carpenter.

The Plaza Midwood shop will serve more than 30 signature flavors, including:

Sicilian Pistachio (made with pistachios from Mount Etna in Sicily)

Guests can also enjoy sundaes, milkshakes, house-made waffle cones, ice cream sandwiches, root beer floats and 14oz pints to go.

Van Leeuwen’s Plaza Midwood scoop shop is located at 1711 Commonwealth Avenue, Charlotte NC 28205.
