GOLF-BRITISH OPEN
British Open won’t finish until Monday
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) — The British Open is headed for a Monday finish, as the second round continues to be delayed by high winds. There were gusts this morning of up to 40 miles per hour at the St. Andrews course.
The round was suspended for more than three hours on Friday because of rain. Then, after only 32 minutes of play Saturday morning, play was halted again by the high winds.
The R&A is still hoping to resume play, but the gusts have yet to die down.
The plan is to finish the second round today, play the third round tomorrow, and hold the final round Monday.
And if your travel plans call for a stop in Scotland on Monday organizers have announced that tickets will cost just $15.60.
It will be the first Monday finish at the British Open since 1988 at Lytham.
The last major golf championship to finish on a Monday was the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage.
