ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) — The final round of the British Open has begun at St. Andrews, where amateur Paul Dunne shares the lead with Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST’-hy-zehn) and Jason Day at 12 under. Dunne grabbed a piece of first with a 6-under 66, while Day and Oosthuizen shot 67s. Reigning Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth (speeth) is one shot back and one ahead of Padraig Harrington.
OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — Scott Piercy closed with a 6-under 65 to win the inaugural Barbasol Championship in Alabama. Piercy was 19-over for the tournament, three shots better than Will Wilcox. The 36-year-old Las Vegas player made a 57-foot birdie putt on the second hole en route to his third PGA victory, and first since the 2012 Canadian Open.
SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) — South Korea’s Chella Choi won the LPGA’s Marathon Classic by edging countrywoman Ha Na Jang in a playoff. They completed regulation tied at 14 under par before Choi won it with a par on the first playoff hole. It was the first career victory for Choi, who has been on the LPGA Tour since 2009.
LOUDON, N.H. (AP) — Kyle Busch held off Brad Keselowski (kehs-LOW’-skee) to win yesterday’s Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Busch has won the last two Cup races and has three victories since missing the first 11 events with a fractured leg and ankle suffered at Daytona in February. He will get a spot in the Chase by finishing among the top 30 in the regular-season points race.
CHICAGO (AP) — Royals pitcher Kris Medlen is coming off the disabled list today. Medlen underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2014 and last pitched in the majors for Atlanta in Sept. 2013. The right-hander was 15-12 with a 3.11 ERA two seasons ago, and is 34-20 with a 2.95 earned run average in 152 major league games.
