CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit are conducting an officer involved shooting investigation that occurred at Wendover Road and Monroe Road in the Providence Division.
On Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 10:15 p.m., officers from the Steele Creek Division located an out of state stolen vehicle in the area of I-77 and Carowinds Boulevard. It was determined that the driver, Nicholas Poulos, was a fugitive with warrants of out for felony probation violation, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at Wendover Road and Monroe Road. Officers exited their vehicles and attempted to take the subject into custody, when the suspect rammed his vehicle into several occupied and unoccupied police cars. Additionally, the subject rammed a vehicle occupied by a civilian. Officer David Harvey perceived an imminent deadly threat and subsequently fired his weapon striking the man. The officers immediately requested Medic.
Medic responded and transported the Poulos to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his hand. Officer Harvey has been placed on Administrative Leave, while Poulos remains at the hospital for treatment.
Upon his release he will be served with warrants for Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Assault with a Deadly Weapon (against the civilian), 4 counts of Damage to Property, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Marijuana.
