Stray shower Tuesday, sunny stretch otherwise continues

While Tuesday's front won't bring much rain to the Carolinas, it will bring another blast of cold air in its wake.

We’re waking up to another winter-like chill this morning, but a terrific Tuesday is on the way as highs swell near 80° across the Piedmont and Foothills. Expect the mostly sunny skies to continue their dominance through the morning hours today, but more clouds may build in this afternoon as a weak cold front stretches across the Carolinas. A stray shower or two may find its way into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area as we head into the evening – especially in the High Country – but most locations remain dry through the workweek.

While today’s front won’t bring much rain to our area, it will bring another blast of cold air in its wake. Lows only dip near 50° around the Metro as we wake up Wednesday morning, but temperatures will bottom out in the lower 40s for the final two mornings of the workweek as highs struggle to clear 70°. The dry times likely continue into the weekend before a messy storm system sweeps through the Southeast by the start of next week.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to monitor an impressive tropical wave making its way through the heart of the Caribbean. The NHC is now giving this system a 90% chance of becoming Tropical Storm Melissa over the next 48 hours, but all signs are pointing toward Melissa being named by the end of the day. Models remain in disagreement over exactly where future Melissa is headed, but it appears that it will stay well away from the mainland U.S. for now.
