LANCASTER, SC — A father was arrested Friday morning after officials say he kidnapped his baby in Rock Hill, and then ran from deputies trying to stop him in Lancaster.
Rock Hill Police say Gabriel Ingram, 28, of Lancaster, took his 9-month-old from the home of the infant’s grandmother around 1:40am without the mother’s consent. A Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputy quickly spotted Ingram driving on Highway 5 in a black 2012 Ram 1500, which matched the description given by Rock Hill PD, minutes after receiving their alert.
Ingram proceeded to lead deputies on a chase that ended when he crashed his truck into a ditch while trying to make a left turn onto Nivens Road. Deputies say Ingram then took off on foot and managed to escape pursuing officials.
Deputies searched his truck but were unable to locate the infant. Deputies say they did however, recover marijuana and a .40 caliber Glock handgun from inside the vehicle.
Around 7:15am, deputies were alerted to a suspect matching Ingram’s description eating at a Bojangle’s about five miles from where he ditched his truck earlier in the morning. Deputies were able to take Ingram in without further incident.
Ingram told detectives that he had dropped the infant off at another home in Rock Hill, according to reports, prior to being pursued by Lancaster County deputies. He was then taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment of minor injuries.
Deputies in Lancaster have charged Ingram with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Siren, Driving Under Suspension, Carrying a Pistol, Possession of a Pistol by a Person Convicted of a Crime of Violence, and Possession of Marijuana. Police in Rock Hill have not yet released their charges on Ingram.
