FORT MILL, S.C. — A mother whose son was killed in Fort Mill is getting community support with funeral and memorial expenses.
Damien Crandell died on Sunday, November 23rd at the Lakeview Apartments, according to the GoFundMe account.
Crandell’s mom, Ericka Jackson, says her son tragically lost his life at 28-years-old due to gun violence.
“We are asking for support to help cover funeral and memorial expenses, and to give Damien the beautiful, peaceful farewell he deserves. Any amount—no matter how small—truly helps our family during this heartbreaking time,” Jackson says on the fundraiser page.
The York County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to Flint Hill Road shortly after 9pm due to a disorderly conduct call that turned into a shooting, according to a police report.
Deputies say Cobey Chambers, 26, shot Crandell multiple times, according to a police report. Chambers is not currently facing any charges connected to the shooting death of Damien Crandell.
*Correction to the original article: The initial article referenced a report provided by the York County Sheriff’s Office listing Cobey Chambers as the suspect in the shooting. The document also states the incident is classified as a homicide and the charge code/charge of murder appears next to Chambers’ name on the suspect line. The current article above is correct as Chambers is not currently facing any charges connected to the shooting death of Damien Crandell.
