Man arrested after deadly accident involving Uber driver in Gastonia

GASTONIA, NC — A man is in custody and charged in connection to a deadly crash that killed an Uber driver and injured three others.

The accident happened on November 9, 2025,Β  just after 7 p.m. on Gaston Day Road.

Gastonia Police say 19-year-old Lincoln Wilson was driving a Cadillac sedan at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car, crossed the center line and struck an Uber driver head-on. The Uber driver has been identified as 53-year-old Janice Lopez of South Carolina.

Police say Lopez died at the scene.

A female passenger in the back seat of Lopez’s vehicle was critically injured and taken to the hospital but has since been released. Investigators say two other cars driving behind the Uber were also impacted by the crash and both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Wilson is facing numerous charges including second degree murder without regard for human life, felony serious injury by vehicle, felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, speeding, reckless driving to endanger, failure to main lane control, driving left of center and failure to wear a seat belt.
