Car dealership owner living on roof in effort to collect bike for kids in need
MONROE, NC — The spirit of the holidays running high in Union County.
Going above and beyond. Brandon Reeves is on a mission.
He’s been living on the roof of his car dealership located on I-74 in Monroe since Monday. His driving force is to collect 1,017 bikes to donate to kids in need for Christmas.
“I’m just a little used car dealer in Monroe. Nobody knows who I am. And I said, you know what? I’ll bet if I live on the roof of the dealership 24 hours a day with a porta John and a tent, people will probably respond to that and they have,” explained Reeves.
Cold nights and wet days haven’t stopped him.
“It’s cold, it’s tough, but the cause is so great. It drives me. I don’t really care,” Reeves said.
The bikes have been rolling in from around the community.
“This is what makes me live up here. It drives me and I’m living my best life watching people do good to help these kids,” Reeves said.
One of those donations came from Devonta Jordan. When the 10-year-old heard about the bike drive, he asked his mom if he could donate his bike.
“I feel like people need it more than me because they’re in need, and I’m not,” explained Jordan.
The bike he’s donating was his Christmas gift last year.
“It makes me proud that I made myself give away my bike that I got for Christmas,” said Jordan of his donation.
Overcome by Davonta’s generosity, Reeves wouldn’t let the little boy leave his lot empty handed. Letting Davonta pick out a new bike for Christmas.
As of 6PM on Wednesday, about 350 bikes were donated.
