CHESTERFIELD, S.C. — A former Chesterfield County teacher and coach is facing charges of sexual misconduct involving a 16-year-old student.

Christopher Clark, 42, turned himself in to the Chesterfield County Detention Center Tuesday morning.

Clark is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with the student on several different occasions from December 2016 until December 2017 while they were at Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School.

Clark had already been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Chesterfield girls basketball team.

“We must protect the trust that parents have in teachers and their influence in the lives of our children. We must assure parents that the school district and the sheriff’s office will do everything in our power to protect our students. Inappropriate relationships between teachers and students can cause lifelong damage.” said Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks, who reiterated that Clark has only been accused and not yet convicted of a crime.
