KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a newborn baby girl in.
39-year-old Maurice Lavon Daniels was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Police say they responded to reports from the Department of Social Services of a possible assault against a newborn. The child was reportedly taken to Carolina’s Medical Center-Northeast before being moved to CNC-Main.
The girl died from her injuries Monday.
