Highs on the rise through holiday week

Temperatures swell nearly 20Β° above normal as we roll into Christmas Day.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but we’ll be far from a winter wonderland this week as highs surge into near-record territory this week. Lows in the 20s and 30s this Monday morning will easily be the coldest temperatures we see this week as an upper-level ridge torches much of the Lower 48. Highs top out in the 40s and 50s across the board to kick off the holiday week, but the Metro will quickly swell into the mid-60s on Tuesday. Near-record highs in the mid-to-lower 70s come into the forecast fold on Christmas Eve Wednesday; the high water mark currently stands at 73Β°.

Highs may surge near 75Β° on Christmas Day around the Metro as sunny skies and southwesterly winds continue to torch the Carolinas. The toasty trend carries into the holiday weekend as the Queen City could notch four- or five-straight days in the 70s through Saturday and/or Sunday. A sharp cold front will bring another major cold snap as we close out 2025, but for now, the heat is on. Outside of some patchy drizzle and a few stray showers Tuesday morning, much of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area remains dry over the next 5-7 days.
