A windy and cold start to the week
Tracking a windy Monday
The wild weather roller coaster continued today as we are 30+ degrees colder this afternoon compared to yesterday! Drizzle and cold conditions have overtaken the area today, but one more swing is in store before the pattern calms down. Our next swing moves through tomorrow morning as a potent cold front approaches from the west. As ironic as it is, this front will help to warm us up 10-15 degrees through tomorrow morning as stout flow from the south erodes our current wedge of cold air.
This front will bring isolated to scattered showers tomorrow morning as well as stout wind gusts across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. Winds could gust near 40 mph tomorrow morning in the Piedmont as the front passes through. Winds could gust as high as 50-60 mph in the High Country, where a high wind warning is in effect through Tuesday afternoon. So it might not be a bad idea to tie down loose objects or bring them in tonight. After the front passes through, we remain breezy, the sun returns, and temperatures drop through the afternoon. By sunset, temperatures drop to the lower 40s and upper 30s in the Piedmont and Foothills. Overnight Monday we see the coldest night in over a week as temperatures are likely to drop into the upper 20s for most, with teens in the High Country.
Tuesday remains windy in the High Country, but winds calm down in the Piedmont. Tuesday will have sunny skies, but will be cold as highs reach the mid 40s in the Piedmont and upper 20s in the High Country. The sunshine remains with a slow warming trend back to average through New Year’s Day. Any New Year’s Eve plans look good to go with seasonable temperatures, and clear skies!
