Flags Fly at Half Staff in Honor of Dean Smith

CHAPEL HILL, NC — Plans are set for a public memorial to honor the life of iconic former UNC basketball coach Dean Smith. Β Flags at state buildings in Charlotte and across North Carolina are flying at half staff in Smith’s honor.
The 83-year-old died peacefully at his home in Chapel Hill on Saturday. Β His family will have a private service on Thursday.
The public memorial is Sunday, February 22 in the Smith Center at UNC Chapel Hill. Β It begins at 2pm.
