Pedestrian Stuck and Killed in Deadly Vehicle Crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in southwest Charlotte.

Investigators say the incident happened on February 26th just after 4am.  Steele Creek Division officers responded to a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle crash on S. Tryon Street near Steelecroft Parkway.

Officers found a 2002 Toyota Celica stopped just before the intersection and a pedestrian in the roadway, who was pronounced deceased on scene.  The pedestrian has been identified as 41-year-old Lakeisha Isaac.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, officers with the DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search were called to the scene to conduct the investigation. The initial investigation has revealed that Matthew Owens, the driver of the 2002 Toyota Celica was traveling northeast on S. Tryon Street in the center lane when he struck Isaac, who was standing in the roadway. Mr. Owens remained on the scene.

Alcohol use and excessive speed are not suspected as contributing factors in this crash.

Police say Isaac was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark colored clothing. It was raining lightly at the time of the crash.
