Duke Energy officials have a message ahead of the storm: get ready

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Officials with Duke Energy are sending a clear message to people ahead of the storm: get ready. The power company says they hope to avoid a repeat of the infamous ice storm 24 years ago that knocked out power for millions of people, and that they’re ready for whatever comes our way. Jeff Brooks with Duke Energy says, “We have hundreds of line and tree workers that are in the Charlotte area every day. They do grid improvements. They do outage repairs. They’re going to be there for the storms.”

Still, since this storm is expected to hit statewide, Duke Energy does not have the power to pull crews from other parts of the state to help exclusively in the Charlotte area. So if you lose power, it may take longer to get it back.
