CHARLOTTE, N.C. — TSA officers say they prevented a North Carolina man from bringing a loaded handgun on board a plane at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The incident happened on March 5th at Checkpoint D. The man was stopped by TSA officers with a loaded Springfield Arms 9mm pistol and an additional magazine containing 16 rounds of ammunition, according to a news release.
The weapon was found in the man’s carry-on bag and was passed along the conveyor belt in the checkpoint X-ray machine.
The passenger was cited for carrying a weapon on airport property. Officials say they have detected 13 firearms at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport so far this year. TSA found 68 firearms last year.
Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded, packed in a hard-side case, locked, and packed separately from ammunition. Then the firearm must be taken to the airline check-in counter.
