Officials: Unattended Cooking Sparks Fire At North Charlotte Assisted Living Home

CHARLOTTE, NC — A fire at a north Charlotte assisted living home Monday afternoon was caused by unattended cooking, according to Charlotte Fire Department.
Officials say the fire broke out just before 5pm at the Shady Harbour Assisted Living home on Tom Hunter Road. It took crews about 15 minutes to get the fire under control.
Charlotte Fire officials say the staff followed their evacuation plan and no injuries were reported. Five residents with special needs were displaced by damage from the fire.
The fire was ruled accidental. Officials estimate damages to be around $30,000.
