MEDIC taking measures to keep you safe during winter storm
CHARLOTTE, NC -MEDIC Assistant Operations Supervisor, Brian Shimberg has decades invested in service to the community.
It’s long enough to remember some of the worst storms to hit the Charlotte metro and long enough to know the importance of preparation for you on the road and at home.
“We’ve got big concerns for just the ability to make it to calls,”says Shimberg, “We’ve got a great fleet of ambulances and our fleet department keeps them in really good shape. All of our ambulances are four wheel drive, so even if the roads get, uh, difficult, we should be able to get to any major emergency that we need to.”
During a similar ice storm on January 23 2003, Tim Hayes, a paramedic working for MEDIC lost both his legs after a semi truck crashed into his ambulance as he was working on the side of the road on I-77 near Davidson.
“Tim Hayes is another good example of what what tragedy can strike,” says Shimberg, “but also, we’ve had babies born that we’ve assisted with during snowstorms.”
MEDIC staff says this weekend they’re ready with all hands on deck staffing and prepared for an increase in call volume as well.
