MORGANTON, NC — Couple wanted after shooting a victim at his home during an argument Saturday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 3:48pm at a home on Dogwood Street. Deputies say Christopher Coffey, 34, shot the victim during an argument over a missing battery in his girlfriend’s car.
According to the victim’s girlfriend, 29-year-old Nicole Nelson had left her vehicle in the victim’s driveway and came back to get it Saturday afternoon with Coffey. When they tried to start the car however, the battery was missing.
Coffey and Nelson took off in a green minivan while firing multiple shots towards the victim. The victim was hit once in the leg and detectives say another round hit the house, which was occupied at the time.
The victim was treated for minor injuries.
Deputies say the suspects’ minivan was found abandoned later that day by Caldwell County deputies, and was seized for further investigation.
Warrants charging Christopher Coffey with felony Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Dwelling, felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon have been issued by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say Coffey was already wanted on several arrest warrants out of Caldwell County for an unrelated incident. Those charges include felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and three counts of Failure to Appear.
Nicole Danielle Coffield, AKA Nicole Nelson, has one outstanding warrant in Caldwell County for an unrelated Failure to Appear in Court on a Possession of Marijuana up to 1/2 Ounce charge and a Criminal Summons for Driving While License Revoked.
