KANNAPOLIS, NC — A 32-year-old man is in custody after a three hour standoff Friday with members of the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Fugitive Task Force (JFTF) and Kannapolis Police Department.
Christopher Thomas Vaughn was arrested at the Lane Street Motel 6 after barricading himself inside a room with a woman and threatening to shoot officers and agents. Officers were able to extract the woman after about two and a half hours, according to officials, and Vaughn surrendered soon after that.
Officials say Vaughn was originally wanted for Post Release and Probation violations, but things escalated when officers tried to arrest him at the Probation Office in Granville County on March 20th. Vaughn allegedly assaulted several officers before throwing a computer through a window and escaping.
Additional warrants were filed on Vaughn charging him with Assault Inflicting Serious Injury on Law Enforcement, Probation, or Parole Officer or on a Person Employed at a State or Local Detention Facility, Injury to Real Property and Injury to Personal Property.
The U.S. Marshals Service says they found Vaughn in Kannapolis after taking over the case and opening a fugitive investigation.
