Would You Support A Four Day School Week?

More school districts are cutting costs by cutting class days.

A school district near Denver, Colorado is giving students and teachers Mondays off next fall.
Officials say switching to a four day school week will save around $1 million a year.

Kids will spend the same amount of time in class because they’ll start school earlier and stay later.
The district decided on a Tuesday through Friday schedule because more holidays fall on Monday.

It’s the largest school district in Colorado to try this, but it isn’t the first.
More than 55 percent of Colorado districts now follow a four-day schedule.

There are benefits to the plan:
The schools save money on transportation and operating costs.
There are also fewer snow days in winter and more time for extracarricular activities.

But there are also downsides:
Parents must worry about additional child care costs with kids out of school on a weekday.
Students must adjust to longer class days, which could affect their sleep schedule.
Plus, there are logistical issues with near-by districts that are still on a 5-day schedule.
