MIDLAND, NC — Police have arrested a Charlotte man they say robbed a Fifth-Third Bank Thursday morning in Cabarrus County.
Police say Joseph Hawkinson, 20, of Charlotte, walked into the bank on Highway 49 around 10:51 am, and handed the clerk a note demanding money and saying he would hurt innocent people if necessary.
Witness descriptions of Hawkinson and his vehicle led police to a home on Elm Street in nearby Stanfield. Hawkinson was arrested and charged with one count of Common Law Robbery.
Investigators say Hawkinson never showed a weapon during the robbery, no weapon was seized, and it appears no one else at the Elm Street address knew anything about the crime. The money taken during the robbery was however, recovered at the home.
The investigation is ongoing.
