Woman Facing Charges In Wreck That Killed CMPD Telecommunicator, Injured Officer

A South Carolina woman is facing charges in a fatal wreck that killed a CMPD telecommunicator on I-77 and injured an off-duty police officer.
Troopers say the wreck happened around 7:30pm near exit 1 on I-77. Trisha Thompson, 36, is facing driving while impaired charges in connection to the wreck. The woman killed, Nicole Schieb worked for CMPD since 2012. Her brother, CMPD officer Christopher Schieb was also injured in the wreck.
Thompson is accused of rear-ending the vehicle the Schieb siblings were in. Troopers say more charges are pending at this time.

CHARLOTTE, NC — NCDOT says two lanes are still closed after a deadly multi-vehicle accident on I-77 south near mile marker one.
The accident happened around 7:40pm Thursday. Medic says one person was pronounced dead.
The victim’s information has not yet been released.
Officials say the lanes could be closed for several more hours, and drivers should expect delays in the area.
