Vigil for Concord teen who froze to death in snowstorm
CONCORD, N.C. – A somber Friday night in Concord. Loved ones of an 18-year-old who died in the snowstorm two weeks ago held a vigil to remember her after her tragic death. Yadira Castro went missing on January 31st. Her body was found two days later, by her father, in the snow.
There were a lot of tears and hugs outside of the Academy Rec Center at Friday evening’s vigil. Yadira’s sister says she had plans to travel to California and Mexico and eventually wanted to start her own clothing line.
Laura Hernandez Han says, “My sister was an incredible, incredible child. She had so many hopes and dreams. And, unfortunately, with everything that that went down, it’s very tragic.”
Investigators say Castro was drunk, and that alcohol and the extreme cold contributed to her death. No foul play is suspected.
