Matthews Man Honored As Hero After Saving A Stranger On A Bridge Last Month

MATTHEWS, NC — The man who saved a stranger from jumping off a bridge in Matthews last month was honored Monday night as a hero.

Matthews Commissioners and Matthews Police recognized 31-year-old Brad Heard for his strong instincts and split second decision that saved a life.

Heard passed a man sitting on a bridge overpass on Weddington Road and could instantly tell he needed help. While others talked to the man, Heard tackled him to the ground and off the ledge.

Matthews Police arrived shortly after Heard tackled the man to the ground and took him to the hospital for an evaluation.
