Officials say the standoff in east Charlotte has come to a peaceful end after lasting roughly five hours.

CMPD says the suspect was a patient at the facility and wanted to commit suicide by cop. Negotiators spoke with the man for several hours to try and peacefully resolve the situation. Around 8:25pm, the suspect surrendered peacefully to police and was transported to a mental health facility for treatment.

Two firearms and a knife were recovered at the scene, according to officials.

At this time, police say they are treating the case as a mental health issue but possible charges could still be filed. His name is not being released due to the nature of the case.

No one was injured during the incident.

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD SWAT officers are on the scene of a standoff in east Charlotte where a possibly armed man has barricaded himself inside a building.

Police say the man is inside the Eastover Psychological and Psychiatric Group building on Latrobe Drive. According to a tweet sent out by CMPD, all employees have been evacuated from the building and are safe.

Residents are advised to avoid the area.
