Suspect arrested after shooting uncle near a Dollar General in Gaston County, police say

A suspect is in custody after shooting his uncle outside a Dollar General in Gaston County, according to the Stanley Police Department.

It happened Friday morning near the Dollar General on East Dallas Road in Stanley, North Carolina.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a dispute between 31-year-old Christopher McDowell and his uncle. McDowell allegedly fired multiple shots and struck his uncle in the parking lot.

The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

McDowell was taken into custody without further incident. He is being charged with the following:

  • Murder, First Degree, Attempt
  • Discharge Firearm in City
  • Weapon, Carry Concealed
  • Go Armed to Terror of Public

The investigation remains ongoing.
